It's a no to dummy cakes… sorry!

For various reasons, some couples ask us for a faux or dummy cake for their wedding day. Sometimes this is in an effort to cut costs (and serve from an undecorated kitchen cake out the back) or they’d like to display a much bigger cake than they actually need. Not only are faux cakes a pain in the butt to decorate - they’re really light so they fling around on the turntable and make it difficult to get a smooth finish - but the total cost is only marginally less than having a real cake. The faux cake bases are expensive and the main cost of your wedding cake is the cake decorators skills and is based on the details of your design, so the time to decorate a faux cake is the same… if not longer.

We don’t offer faux cakes for weddings/events

Faux/dummy cake are made from styrofoam. Unfortunately this can’t be recycled and won’t biodegrade so they end up in the bin at the end of the night… and that’s not what we’re about! Our industry produces a lot of waste so we recycle and compost everything we can, we collect our soft plastics and avoid sending too much buttercream/crumbs down the sink. Some clients may not like our decision not to offer faux cakes however it’s a decision we made for our business and the environment and it might mean we’re not the cake decorators for you… and that’s ok!

We do use faux cakes for expos… over & over again!

We do use dummy cakes for expos - we have had these bad boys for over 5 years and they get cleaned and washed, over and over again after every expo. They’re stained and a lil’ nasty looking so we’d never use the near anything that was designed to be eaten and we plan to continue reusing them for as long as we’re in business!
